Hervey Bay is located approximately 300km north of Brisbane and is considered one of the most popular growth areas within Queensland. It is a sea side city and is a major focus for tourists going to and from Fraser Island as well as a departure point for whale watching tours. Currently the population of Hervey Bay is approximately 50,000 and is the second fastest growing population of any shire in Queensland and the fastest growing shire in the Wide Bay Burnett region. Main industries in Hervey Bay are tourism, service related industries, retail, and light industrial. In July 2005 the Hervey Bay airport was completed to allow for large aircraft flying directly from Sydney into Hervey Bay.

Maryborough Overview

Maryborough is a historic regional city situated approximately 270km north of Brisbane. Whilst it is not the biggest city in the region, Hervey Bay being larger, it is the most dominant commercial centre in the area with a strong industrial base including the engineering workshop of Walkers Limited, Hyne and Son Timber Merchants, and supports sugar cane, forestry, grazing and tourism
industries. Within Maryborough there are also many state and federal government departments. Maryborough has a population of approximately 25,000 people and services the surrounding shires of Woocoo, Tiaro and the western section of Hervey Bay. Townships surrounding and serviced by Maryborough include Bauple, Tiaro, Poona, Tuan, Boonooroo, Maroom, Howard, Torbanlea, Aramara and Brooweena.
